The government of Dr. Samia has promoted gender equality – Prime Minister

Kassim Majaliwa has said that a lot of work has been done during this leadership phase by implementing strategies and policies aimed at eliminating discrimination and promoting gender equality.

He made the statement yesterday while speaking to thousands of citizens who attended the third commemoration of the veteran politician, Bibi Titi Mohammed held at Ujamaa grounds, Ikwiriri, Rufiji district, Pwani region.

The Prime Minister who was an official guest on behalf of the President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan said, “Despite the various efforts made by the Government, civil society and the international community, there are still many challenges in achieving gender equality.

That fact provides an important impetus to develop and strengthen our efforts in addressing issues of gender equality,” he said.

Mentioning some of the steps taken by the Government of the sixth phase, the Prime Minister said that the first is to increase the number of women in decision-making positions where President Dr.

Samia Suluhu Hassan has been providing various leadership opportunities for women and strengthening balance in the appointments she makes, an action that has increased the number of women in leadership.

“These decisions of the Honorable President are an example of recognizing the position of women and opportunities for women and appreciating the importance of having adequate representation of women at various levels of leadership.”

He has mentioned other steps as making improvements to the education system to increase more opportunities, implementing specific plans to ensure that the Tanzaia community becomes healthy and participates fully in the activities of nation building and also to empower women economically through loans and training for female entrepreneurs so that they can get rid of themselves economically.

“The government is also implementing various interventions and strategies to remove the wrong traditions and customs that have been hindering the development of women. I believe that this festival will become a catalyst for positive change in our society.

Let’s all stick together and continue to build a Tanzania with equality and justice for all,” he stressed.

Laying the foundation for continuing to honor the veteran, the Prime Minister has said: “The best way to honor Mrs. Titi’s great contribution is to imitate her hard work.

So let each one in his position work hard, patriotism and courage.”

“These celebrations are historic and remind us that the freedom we have is the work done by patriots, heroes of the country who were ready to die for their country.

In addition, they remind the Tanzanian community that women have a great role in various national movements,” he said.
He has asked all citizens to cooperate with the Government to strongly oppose gender-based violence against women and children.

“Each of us should see that it is his duty to protect girls and boys. The current world is ruined due to the erosion of morals, so let us all raise our voice to condemn all evil actions. Use the gender desks along with all the existing instruments in the systems of our communities to report the perpetrators of acts of violence.”

Earlier, the Minister of State (OR – TAMISEMI), Mohammed Mchengerwa said the celebration involved various activities including tree planting, allocating beds at Bibi Titi’s secondary school and laying the foundation stone on Bibi Titi’s bridge on the road to Mohoro.

While at the exhibition booths at the celebration, the Prime Minister was told that 302 new primary schools have been built and are ready to receive 1,093,000 students who are expected to start the first form next year and that they will all start in one phase.

Giving that information, the Head of the Communication Division (OR-TAMISEMI), Ms. Ntee Hosea said: “In implementing strategies to improve teaching and learning in schools, which began to be implemented in January 2023 until now, the number of students who can master the skills of KKK first and second grade has increased from 35 percent to 94 percent.”

He said that students who can use the English language at the level of self-identification in the third grade in Government schools has increased from 45 percent to 80 percent and students who can use the four skills of using the English language in the first form has increased from 38 percent to 87 percent.
