Dar to benefit from the Natural Gas project

The Governor of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila has met with natural gas experts from the Ministry of Energy and the International Agency JICA and held capacity building discussions related to the use of natural gas in the country.

Chalamila has said that Dar es Salaam region is lucky because it is one of the three regions that have been visited by the Gas project and mentioned the reasons that caused it is a large number of people, industries and many institutions with high energy needs. The other regions that have been visited are the Coast and Dodoma.

He said that the world is currently facing a change in the country’s behavior that brings various effects including the El-Nino rains, for that reason what is being done is to prevent the cutting of trees and other natural vegetation to allow the use of natural gas to be used as a source of energy in recipes and other things.

Dar es Salaam alone during the dry season uses up to 516 megawatts in plants. Natural gas will be an alternative to the problem of power outages in the region of Ar es Salaam, thus bringing efficiency in work in general.

The project director Engineer Joyce Kisamo said that by using experts from Tanzania, the Ministry of Energy, TPDC and EWURA with the support of JICA (Japan) they have done the design and built the capacity to use natural gas in the regions of Dar es Salaam, Pwani and Dodoma. The Gas Project will be implemented in those regions and other regions will follow.
