Ukonga constituency proposed to be divided

Ukonga constituency is proposed to be divided and a new constituency of Kivule is created.

The Dar es Salaam Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) led by the Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila today, March 24, 2024, has received and approved the recommendations of the Ilala District Consultative Committee (DCC) to divide Ukonga constituency located in Ilala District into two constituencies, namely Ukonga constituency and Kivule constituency.

A statement issued yesterday said the next process is to submit the recommendations to the relevant authorities including OR-PAL to obtain approval.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam at an RCC meeting immediately after receiving the recommendations, RC Chalamila said the recommendations are aimed at improving services considering that the constituency is large and has a large population, so the committee has received the recommendations and they will be submitted to other levels for further decisions.

RC Chalamila said that after the division, the new Kivule constituency will have six wards, namely Kipunguni, Mzinga, Msongola, Kitunda, Kivule and Majohe.

He said that the constituency has an area of ​​128 square kilometers, a population of 431,736 and Ukonga Constituency remains with seven wards, namely Ukonga, Chanika, Gongo la Mboto, Zingiziwa, Buyuni and Pugu Station with a population of 490,121.

Presenting a report on the progress of the division of Ukonga constituency on behalf of the Dar es Salaam Regional Administrative Secretary Mr. Saloni Asheri Nyika who is the Assistant Administrative Secretary for Management, Monitoring and Audit of the Region.

He said that after the recommendations, the Regional Administrative Secretary’s office sent experts who went to satisfy themselves and determine whether the constituency really needs to be divided and all criteria were considered including the population as well as economic activities.

CCM National Executive Council member for Dar es Salaam Region Juma Simba Gadafi has said that in looking at the interests of the people, it is important to abandon selfishness as dividing constituencies is to improve services to the people.
