Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko has outlined the priorities of the Ministry of Energy in the 2025/2026 Budget including continuing to implement projects for generation, transmission, distribution of electricity and connecting the National Grid to the remaining Regions of Rukwa, Kagera, Lindi and Mtwara.
Presenting these priorities to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, today in Dodoma, Dr. Biteko said the priorities are in line with the National Energy Compact 2025-2030.
“The Chairman, these priorities are in line with the National Energy Compact 2025-2030 which will support access to and connection of electricity to citizens, increase the contribution of renewable energy in electricity production and the participation of the Private Sector in the development of the Energy Sector”. Said Dr. Biteko
Dr. Biteko said the Government has built a strong capacity for indigenous people to implement electricity projects while giving an example of employment in electricity projects reaching 53,000.
He said the world needs energy and the demand for electricity has been increasing rapidly so the Government will continue to increase sources of electricity generation to meet the needs of Tanzanians.
The Director of Policy and Planning, Ministry of Energy, Petro Lyatuu said that in ensuring reliable access to electricity, the Ministry will continue to strengthen the National Grid Stabilization Project as well as carry out maintenance and repair of power generation plants.
“Chairman, we will continue with the distribution of energy in Suburbs, mining areas, agriculture, industries and water pumps as well as health centers to facilitate production activities and the provision of quality services to the citizens”, said Mr. Lyatuu
Regarding Clean Cooking Energy, Mr. Lyatuu said the Government will continue to encourage and enable Tanzanians to use clean cooking energy as part of the implementation of the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Cooking Energy (2024-2034) and the National Energy Compact 2025 – 2030.
He said the Government will continue with the exploration, development and distribution of oil and natural gas as well as implementing pilot and strategic oil and natural gas projects
including Mnazi Bay North, Eyasi – Wembere, as well as the Liquefied Natural Gas – LNG Project.
Another project is the construction of a crude oil pipeline from Hoima, Uganda to Tanga, Tanzania (East African Crude Oil Pipeline – EACOP).
He said the Government will continue to strengthen the performance of Institutions and Organizations under the Ministry of TANESCO, REA, TPDC, PBPA, EWURA and PURA as well as Subsidiary Companies so that they provide better services to stakeholders, enhance revenues as well as productivity and efficiency in operations.
He said another goal is to increase the level of access to electricity from the current 78.4 percent to 100 percent by 2030.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, Mr. David Mathayo has commended the Government for coming up with priorities that will enable Tanzanians to have reliable energy.
