COLLECTION of government revenue through the Kagera Region Mining Sector from royalties, levies and various fees for the 2024/2025 financial year has reached 3.2 billion shillings

Kagera was scheduled to collect 5.8 billion shillings and by the end of February this year 2025 they have succeeded in collecting that amount of money which is equivalent to 82 percent of the target in a period of eight months.

The Acting Resident Mining Officer of Kagera Region, Mr. Nobert Mkopi

Speaking as the Acting Resident Mining Officer of Kagera Region, Mr. Nobert Mkopi said the money has been collected due to various efforts they have made in the management of the Mining Sector in all seven councils of Kagera Region.

“Kagera Region in terms of the Mining Sector we manage all seven councils in terms of the districts of Kyerwa, Karagwe, Misenyi, Muleba, Bukoba, Biharamulo and Ngara, there are various mining activities”, said, Mr. Mkopi

“This region is found with various minerals including Tin, Gold, Nickel, Wolframite (WO3), Industrial Minerals and Construction Minerals.

“The Kyerwa areas are mined for tin minerals, they are mined legally with small-scale mining licenses but there is also a large exploration license and these minerals contribute 32 percent so far of the revenue we have collected of 3.2 billion shillings and the rest of the money comes from other minerals including gold and various permit and license fees”, said, Mr. Mkopi

He said the trend of revenue collection is not bad and by the end of the financial year they are confident they will reach the intended target.

Mr. Mkopi has called on investors across the country to seize the investment opportunities available in the Mining Sector in the region Kagera is rich in various minerals including Tin, Gold, Nickel, Wolframite (WO3), Industrial Minerals and Construction Minerals.
