Government to build a large network of gas pipelines

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Dr. Doto Biteko has met and held talks with the CEO of Rashal Energies, Mr. Farhiya Warsame, which is building a gas pipeline from Kisemvule to Mbagala in Dar es Salaam for the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations and industries.

The talks were held in Dar es Salaam on March 6, 2025 on the sidelines of the East African Community Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (EAPCE’25) which is being held for three days in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Biteko said the Government’s goal is to have a large network of gas pipelines as well as gas filling stations in vehicles to enable citizens to easily access services.

Dr. Biteko said the Government is ready at any time to provide cooperation to companies that want to invest in providing this service to the citizens.

Mrs. Farhiya Warsame thanked Dr. Biteko for his guidance which has led the company to start implementing the project.

She explained that citizens have shown great awareness in operating their vehicles using natural gas instead of oil due to natural gas being cheaper than oil.

Similarly, Dr. Biteko has met and held talks with the Director of Rock Mountain Company in Canada, Mr. Nick Lenstra which has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) to begin feasibility studies.

After the meeting, they have agreed with local stakeholders including the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) to use natural gas to produce liquid fuel that can be used in aircraft.

Also, Dr. Biteko met and held talks with the Vice President of CNOOC for Uganda, Wang Juteng, where, in addition to discussing the country’s Oil and Natural Gas Sector, he invited them to participate in the Fifth Round of Bidding for Oil and Natural Gas Blocks in the country.
