Mining Employees urged to work hard and be patriotic

EMPLOYEES of the Ministry of Minerals and its Institutions have been asked to work hard and be patriotic to protect the country’s economy from being affected by changes in foreign policies.

Institutions under the Ministry of Minerals are the Minerals Commission, the National Minerals Corporation (STAMICO), the Geology and Mineral Research Institute of Tanzania (GST), the Tanzania Gemological Center and the Institute for Promoting Transparency and Accountability in Revenues from Mineral Resources, Oil and Natural Gas (TEITI).

Speaking on February 8, 2025 at the Bonaza organized by STAMICO, held at the John Merlin Secondary School Grounds in Dodoma, Deputy Minister of Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa said Tanzania has all kinds of resources, it is good to preserve them, value them and prioritize patriotism so that the country’s economy continues to be strong.

“The United Arab Emirates have become rich with just one resource, oil extraction, we have everything, minerals that we have been given a great responsibility to manage, let’s work hard as a team in cooperation,” said Dr. Kiruswa.

He said, in order to achieve the 10 percent target that the Mining Sector should contribute to the National GDP, it is necessary to tighten the belt.

“We must tighten the belt to achieve the 10 percent target, the remaining days are not many although we have made great progress,” said Dr. Kiruswa.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Engineer Yahya Samamba has urged employees to continue to be patriotic and work hard and dedicated so that the Mining Sector can make a great contribution to the nation and bring relief to the citizens.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Mining Commission, Mrs. Janet Lekashingo has urged employees in the Mining Sector to take care of their health by exercising to avoid non-communicable diseases.

“According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), 41 million people, equivalent to 71 percent are losing their lives due to non-communicable diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart diseases”, said Mrs. Lekashingo and added,

“Statistics show that in Tanzania 33 percent of all deaths are due to non-communicable diseases, let’s look at ourselves here, out of every three people we have, one dies from non-communicable diseases, so my brothers and sisters, exercise is important”, she emphasized.

Mrs. Lekashingo has also presented a special award to the Executive Secretary of the Minerals Commission, Engineer Ramadhani Lwamo due to his outstanding performance, his wisdom and generosity and his trust by the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who on January 25, 2025 officially confirmed him as the Executive Secretary of the Minerals Commission.

She has also presented various awards and prizes to retired leaders including officially bidding farewell to the former Chairman of the Minerals Commission, Professor Idris Kikula and Professor Abdulkarim Mruma who was the Commissioner of the Minerals Commission.

In another step, the winners of various sports have been presented with cups and medals
