Muhimbili National Hospital Mloganzila has completed a kidney transplant surgery camp by transplanting five patients where kidneys were professionally harvested from donors using a modern method of holes (Hand Assisted Laporascopic Donor Nephrectomy).
According to the Kidney Disease Specialist, Dr. Immaculate Goima, the camp which lasted three days from January 29 to 31, 2025 involved local experts who collaborated with experts from South Korea.
Dr. Goima said that due to the expertise used to harvest kidneys from donors, the donors have been allowed to stay in the hospital for a short time between two to three days and be allowed to return home to reunite with their families.
Dr. Goima said that due to the investment made by the Government in training experts, purchasing medical equipment, working tools and building good relations with various countries in the world, it has helped to provide these world-class services in the country with professionalism and high quality.
Muhimbili Mloganzila National Hospital is the only hospital in the country that uses the expertise of harvesting kidneys from donors using a small-bore method, after the transplant, the hospital reaches the number of 16 patients who have received kidney transplants since the service began to be provided in Muhimbili Mloganzila in April, 2023.
