NHIF commended by Parliament

The Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Tulia Ackson has commended the National Health Insurance Fund for the major improvements made and reaching out to the citizens and providing them with better services.

The Director General of NHIF, Dr. Irene Isaka, said yesterday that they are looking for feedback on the services and how the Fund has planned to reach out to the citizens in the implementation of Universal Health Insurance as well as the services provided by the Fund to Members of Parliament.

Dr. Tulia stressed the importance of the Fund continuing to resolve challenges that arise and create obstacles for citizens to join health insurance.

“First of all, let me congratulate the Director General for the major service changes you have made in a short time and have had visible successes, I just urge you to continue to look at and address the existing challenges so that citizens do not hesitate to join the service”, said Dr. Tulia.

Speaking about the ongoing improvements being made within the Fund, Dr. Isaka said that the Fund’s priority is to use IT systems to simplify member registration, collection of contributions and processing of claims to eliminate complaints that have been arising frequently.

He said the progress made by the Fund in the implementation of Universal Health Insurance where he said that the registration of groups including students has already begun along with individuals so that the provision of education continues to ensure that every citizen joins health insurance.

He assured Dr. Tulia that the Fund has improved access to quality medical services for citizens in the country as well as having a strong system to respond or address their challenges quickly.

Speaking about the services provided by NHIF to Parliament, Dr. Isaka said that the Fund has successfully served the institution for 10 years so he promised further improvement of services to the group of parliamentarians so that they can be sure of getting medical services and their dependents at any time.
