Dr. Nchimbi approved as running mate for October 2025 General Election

Dodoma: The Chairman of the Revolutionary Party [CCM] who is also a presidential candidate, Dkt. Samia Suluhu Hassan has proposed the party’s Secretary General, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi as a running mate in the General Election to be held in October 2025.

Dr. Emmanuel John Nchimbi was born on December 24, 1971, in Mbeya. He is a politician who specializes in politics and leadership, having served in various positions in government and within the party for many years.

Dr. Nchimbi began his studies at Oysterbay Primary School in Dar es Salaam (1980-1986).

He studied secondary school at Uru Secondary School (1987-1989) and later Sangu Secondary School, where he graduated from Form Four in 1990.

For Form Six studies, he studied at Forest Hill Secondary School, Mbeya (1991-1993).

Higher education took him to the National Institute of Development Management (IDM) Mzumbe, Morogoro, where he obtained a Higher Diploma in Public Administration (1994-1997).

He continued his studies with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Banking and Finance at the University of Mzumbe (2001-2003).

Finally, he completed his PhD at Mzumbe between 2008 and 2011.

Dr. Nchimbi’s political journey began in 1997 when he was appointed as a member of the CCM Central Committee (NEC).

The following year (1998), he was elected as the National Chairman of the CCM Youth Union (UVCCM).

These positions strengthened the foundation of his political journey and leadership within the party. In 2003, he was appointed as the District Commissioner of Bunda, serving until 2005.

In the General Elections that year, he won the parliamentary seat for Songea Urban Constituency, beginning his journey in parliament.

During his representation in parliament, he was appointed to hold several ministerial positions, including:

  • Deputy Minister for Information, Culture and Sports (2006)
  • Deputy Minister for Labour, Employment and Youth Development (2006–2008)
  • Deputy Minister for Defence and National Defence Force (2008–2010)
  • Minister for Information, Culture, Sports and Youth (2010–2012)
  • Minister for Home Affairs (2012–2013)

Diplomatic Services
Dr. Nchimbi moved into diplomacy in 2016, when he was appointed as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Brazil.

He served in that position until 2021, before being appointed as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Egypt in 2022, where he served until August 2023.

Current Position On January 15, 2024, he was appointed as the Secretary-General of CCM, replacing Daniel Chongolo. This appointment reflected the party’s great confidence in him, especially considering his long-standing contribution to the party and the nation.

Currently, Dr. Nchimbi is also a running mate for the Vice-Presidential position in the Tanzanian general election to be held in October 2025.

Personal Life

Dr. Nchimbi is the son of John Nchimbi, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police and retired CCM Regional Secretary. His family background in public service has been a source of inspiration in his career and his dedication to national development.
