The Tanzanian government has said it has received rumours of the presence of Marburg virus in Kagera Region and has begun investigating the matter.
A statement issued this week by the Ministry of Health said it had received rumours of the presence of Marburg virus in Kagera Region.
The statement said that following the rumours, the Ministry has taken several immediate steps which are to send a team of experts, conduct an investigation into the matter, take samples and conduct laboratory tests.
It said that until January 15, 2025, laboratory test results from all the samples taken have not confirmed the presence of the Marburg virus.
The Ministry wishes to assure the public and the international community, including the World Health Organization (WHO), that it has strengthened disease surveillance systems and will continue to provide more information.
