Minister Mavunde said they will continue to develop capacity in exchanging experiences, adding value to minerals and investing in conducting research to develop the mining sector, expanding the value chain to increase employment and contribute to the growth of the national income.
“First of all, Madam. Ambassador Young has come to the office to introduce himself since he has been in the country for a short time since his arrival but we have also discussed the great cooperation that exists between Tanzania and the United Kingdom.
During the talks, Tanzania and the United Kingdom have agreed to build the capacity of their people and exchange experiences especially in the Geological and Mineral Research Institute (GST) in the country and the British Geological Survey (BGS) of the United Kingdom in order to build the capacity of Tanzanians with the necessary knowledge on issues related to the development of the mining sector.
He said now is the right time to ensure that strategic minerals benefit Tanzanians and the nation and that is why we have prepared a special Strategy to implement that goal, considering that these minerals are currently in great demand in the world.
He said we are in the final stages of completing this special strategic and important minerals strategy which is also part of the Global Campaign to reduce carbon emissions through the use of clean energy.
Speaking at the meeting, the British Ambassador to Tanzania, Mrs. Marianne Young said the UK commends the great efforts to promote the mining sector made by the Tanzanian government under the leadership of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and promised to strengthen the cooperation.
