Retired President of the Government of the Fourth Phase Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has led thousands of citizens in athletic competitions known as Rombo Marathon and Ndafu Festival held at Rongai Stadium in Rombo district in Kilimanjaro region.
Speaking immediately after finishing the race, Dr. Kikwete said the goal of the race is good because part of the funds raised will contribute to improving the Huruma Hospital in the district where health services are good, many citizens will benefit from medical services and thus not have the inconvenience of going to be treated in distant hospitals.
He said with that, this race is important to strengthen the health of the people because exercise helps to avoid getting non-infectious diseases.
“Congratulations, Prof. Adolf Mkenda along with the entire organizing committee for making this marathon successful which basically aims to bring development here in Rombo, I have been told that part of these funds will be sent to the Mercy Hospital as well as to improve toilets in Government Schools, this is indeed a very good thing. I came to Rombo in 2005 for the campaign, in 2010 I also came, Rombo has changed, progress is clearly visible”, he said, Dr. Kikwete
“I would also like to convey the greetings of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has sent me to remind the Rombos of the importance of exercising and for that importance today she has brought to you her Health and Medicine Advisor, Prof. Mohamed Janabi to emphasize the importance of exercise and a better lifestyle”, said Dr. Kikwete
