Mudslides Hanang’ Prime Minister inaugurates 109 houses

Manyara: Minister Mluu Kassim Majaliwa has inaugurated and handed over 109 houses to the victims of the mudslide disaster that occurred on December 03, 2023 in Hanang’ in the Mqanyara region.

Speaking immediately after handing over and launching the houses built in Waret township, Hanang District, Manyara region, the Prime Minister said that the Honorable President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan apologizes to all the victims and has stressed that the Government will help them to continue with their lives as it was before.

He has said that the construction of 73 out of 109 houses has been funded by the Central Government and built by the Asset Production Organization of the Nation Building Army (SUMA-JKT), another 35 houses have been built by the Tanzania Red Cross, while one house has been built by the Women’s Union of the National Revolutionary Party (UWT).

“Following the disaster, 109 houses needed to be rebuilt quickly, so, considering the effects, and with his love, Mr. President Dr. Samia gave instructions to build better and permanent houses in a safe area for victims who lost their homes.

This construction is a sign of concern, love and the Government’s commitment to continue being with the people in times of crisis”, he said and added that President Dr. Samia gave an amount of 1.38 billion shillings for the provision of social services including electricity, water and reliable roads, the aim being to ensure that every house is reached by these services”, he said.

The Prime Minister has instructed the leaders of the Hanang District Council to coordinate the allocation of additional plots in the area in order to develop the area.

“We want this area not to be recognized as a victim’s residence, but an official village with all the necessary social services and to be an example of economic and social improvements for all citizens”, he said.

Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination), Mr. William Lukuvi has thanked the President Dr. Samia for guidelines, vision and strong thinking on how to deal with and restore the situation when there were mudslides in Hanang district. “The construction of these houses is his vision, he has also brought 109 gas stoves that will be handed over to the residents of this area.

The houses have been built by the government of the sixth phase led by the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in collaboration with the Red Cross and the Women’s Union of the Revolutionary Party [UWT] are both located in Waret village, Hanang’ district, Manyara region.

President, Dr. Samia decided to build the houses after visiting the area affected by mudslides and the decision is a continuation of the government’s sincere commitment to protect its citizens and restore them to continue with the system of life after the disaster.
