The President of Zanzibar and the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said that non-communicable diseases are a problem that needs the cooperation of local and international institutions to find the best solutions.
Dr. Mwinyi said this when he spoke to a team of expert doctors and non-infectious disease specialists from Geneva who came to the White House to meet him on November 12, 2024.
Dr. Mwinyi informed that Zanzibar, like other countries in the world, has many patients with non-communicable diseases that increase every year, so it needs support in its efforts to control the increase in such patients.
He has noted that Zanzibar carries a large burden of transporting patients abroad to be treated for various diseases, including cancer, so the issue of building the capacity of health workers is of great importance.
He has emphasized the Ministry of Health to continue the process of negotiation with the team of expert doctors with the mission of finding the best way, expertise and access to drugs to treat non-infectious diseases.
He has assured the champion doctors that the Government is ready to cooperate with them and work side by side to achieve their goal of coming to the country to identify challenges and areas of cooperation in the health sector
