President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said the Government has prioritized the development of a sustainable society, including the construction of affordable houses and ensuring the availability of essential services such as clean water, environmental sanitation, and electricity.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this at the Melia Hotel, Kiwengwa, North Unguja Region, at the joint annual meeting between the African Union and Associations of Institutions dealing with housing loans from African Union countries (AUHF).
He added that the Government has taken great steps to deal with the housing needs of people who are increasing day by day by considering the ability to afford housing and sustainable housing.
He has appealed to institutions to provide cheap loans so that citizens can easily afford housing costs.
He said the Government through the Zanzibar Housing Corporation (ZHC) has put in place several plans to increase the availability of affordable housing especially for low and middle income families including the construction of large housing projects that meet the needs of urban growth and ensure the Government achieves its goals his.
He praised the TMRC Company for improving access to housing loans in Tanzania, making home ownership easier for many people and stimulating the construction industry, thus generating more jobs and contributing to economic growth.
He has congratulated Tanzanian businessmen and institutions for making great strides and developing affordable housing and urban development, including Watumishi Housing Company (WHC) who are the main actors in addressing the housing needs of Tanzanians, the Central Bank of Tanzania and CRDB which leads to the provision of housing loans for citizens.
