The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has said that now is the time for the African continent to change by using clean cooking energy so as not to affect health and the environment due to the use of unclean energy such as wood and charcoal.
Dr. Samia has said this, September 27, 2024 when launching the Secondary School for Girls of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Located in Namtumbo District in Ruvuma region which has been closed to Clean Energy Cooking systems.
“What pleased me the most when I arrived here was the use of clean energy for cooking, this is my project that I carried for the women of Africa”, said President Dr. Samia
Dr. Samia added that many women in Africa have been suffering from diseases due to the use of unclean energy such as firewood and thus losing their lives.
Dr. Samia has emphasized that currently large institutions, including educational ones, which have a population of more than one hundred people, the Government will start with them by shutting down clean energy systems for cooking.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga has said that the clean energy project in the school has been implemented through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) with Oryx Gas sponsoring a large 1,750 kg container.
“Here they will be able to use this energy for one and a half to two months, right now they have about 500 students but these stoves are capable of cooking up to 800 students”, explained, “Mrs. Kapinga”
And adding that along with the closure of those systems, education on the correct use of clean energy for cooking has been provided at the school.
