35 teams to fight Chem Chem CUP 2024, 78 million used

A total of 35 teams are expected to participate in the Chem Chem Cup in 2024, which is expected to spend approximately 78 million shs.The 10th championship was launched yesterday by The Regional Commissioner of Manyara, Queen Sendiga who was represented by the District of Mbulu, Mrs. Veronica Kessy.

Speaking at the launch of the championship in 2024, Mrs Kessy praised the Chem Chem Institute which has invested in Babati district in activities with Tourism and Conservation to develop sports through conservation in Manyara region.

“We congratulate Chem Chem for continuing this championship every year which aims to promote environmental protection and fight against poaching”, She said.

She said the government is sponsoring Chem Chem’s contribution in developing conservation and urged the people of Babati district to continue participating in conservation as there are great benefits available.

General Manager of Chem Chem, Ms. Clever Zulu said Chem Chem will continue to sponsor the games to increase awareness in conservation issues.

Mrs. Zulu said this year’s slogan of the championship is “Tunza Mazingira Okoa Twiga”, it is expected that hundreds of residents living in 10 villages that are being created as a Burunge wildlife community reserve will participate.

The secretary of the tournament, John Bura said 35 teams will participate in the tournament, 18 senior soccer teams, 9 youth teams under 18 years and 8 women’s teams.

This year’s soccer champion will be awarded a trophy and cash Sh2.5 million/-, the second runner-up Sh1.5 million, the third runner-up Sh1 million and for women the champion Sh1.5 million, the second runner-up Sh1 million and the Third runner-up Sh500,000/-.

“For youth teams, the first winner 1 million/-, the second 600,000/- and the third winner 400,000/-, also all the champions will be given medals and there will also be prizes for the best players”, he said
