PRIME MINISTER Kassim Majaliwa has called on indigenous engineers to ensure that the projects they manage meet national and international standards and are in line with the value of money used.
He has said that it is the responsibility of engineers to help the government save money by estimating the money needed according to the value of the project in question.
The Prime Minister said yesterday when he represented President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Construction Department of the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Zanzibar.
“Engineering is a profession that has taboos and must adhere to values. Among those taboos and values is to ensure that the projects you manage meet national, regional and international standards and are compatible with the value of money used”, he said
He has asked all employers in the country to set up a procedure to hire local graduate engineers and build their capacity while they are at work as well as collaborate with training institutions to allocate space and receive young people who are in training to provide them with work experience.
“This procedure is for the benefit of the Nation and for the employers as well since the young people will graduate when they are mature academically and practically”, he said
Majaliwa went on to say that he has asked the Karume Institute of Science and Technology and other training institutions in the country to ensure that they produce many graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the labor market to increase the level of manual labor performed by natives.
The Minister of Education and Practical Training of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Mrs. Lela Mohamed Mussa (MB), has said that they have started a program to give money to facilitate access to loans for students of Engineering fields and provide funding and practical training as well as giving priority to students of that field.
The Minister of Education and Technical Training of the United Republic of Tanzania, Prof. Adolf Mkenda has said that all Ministries have cooperated to empower engineering students to increase productivity in the training they receive.
