Prime Minister orders to monitor cooperative executives

The Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen and monitor cooperative executives to adhere to the values ​​of cooperative service, transparency, accountability and good governance and thus attract members and investors.

He issued the directive, on April 27, 2025 when he launched a debate on corporate development capital at the Jakaya Kikwete conference center, in Dodoma. Also, the Prime Minister has launched an annual agricultural report for 2022/2023, 2023/2024.

The Prime Minister has used the opportunity, to emphasize financial institutions, including banks and development funds, to continue to cooperate closely with cooperatives by setting up friendly credit and capital systems for smallholder farmers and businesses.

“All development partners, continue to partner with the Government in providing the resources, expertise and innovations needed to develop this important sector. The Ministry should ensure that the launch of information is also compiled in Swahili to enable more citizens to benefit ”, he said.

The Prime Minister said the cooperative sector in the country continues to improve rapidly, as an important axis of economic and social development, especially in various areas.

He said the Sixth Phase Government, headed, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has taken concrete steps to reform the corporate sector including improving the management and operations of cooperatives as well as strengthening crop markets through the warehouse receipt system.

“Providing corporate officials with resources so that they can effectively carry out their responsibilities, improve access to farmers through cooperatives and the strengthening of financial services through the establishment of a Cooperative Bank (Coop Bank)”, he said.

Commenting on the official launch of a joint project funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Tanzanian government, the Prime Minister said the project was part of the implementation of the BBT Program.

Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Hussein Bashe said Cooperation is the only way that builds firmness to the parties and that the Cooperative Bank is going to facilitate the payment of farmers. The Cooperative Bank has more than 50 billion shillings and will have more than 50 agents in the country.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Bank (Coop Bank), Professor Gervas Machimu said the bank would be a pillar of corporate development in urban and rural areas, would restore the respect of the corporate and stimulate the economy of the people.

Earlier, Chairman of the Commission of the Commission of Cooperatives,Mr. Abdulmajid Nekela said the Cooperative Bank would be running more modern and would be competitive and visualized a productive partnership.
