Mwalimu Nyerere School of Leadership Kibaha and ADEM College of Education Leadership are hoping to come up with a joint program to provide training to teachers nationwide to improve the education sector and build patriotism among teachers and students in the country.
This was stated by the Chief Executive of ADEM College of Education Leadership Dr. Maulid Maulid who was the official guest at the closing of the three-day training to build the capacity of head teachers in Ilala District in Dar es Salaam held at Mwalimu Nyerere School of Leadership Kibaha where 76 head teachers from the TAHOSSA Head Teachers Association participated.
Dr. Maulid said they have agreed with Mwalimu Julius Nyerere School to initiate a one-week training program for teachers so that they can become more mature, which will ensure that all teachers nationwide attend.
He said that ADEM College provides Leadership education to Teachers but the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha provides Leadership education in general and has good infrastructure for Teachers’ accommodation.
Speaking on the issue of controlling acts of violence against children, Dr. Maulid said that in controlling acts of violence, everyone has their role from the family level, neighbors, local government and all other authorities. I urge the community and education authorities to ensure the safety of students and children in general.
“Violence against children, students, mental health challenges contribute to teachers giving harsh punishment to students, so we have decided to start a program to provide them with regular training and emphasize leadership principles, especially for head teachers,” said Dr. Maulid.
“All institutions that manage all children should be held accountable together, starting from school principals and classroom teachers who have been monitoring children who have been subjected to violence from home. Let us commend those teachers because they have also been doing a great job,” said Dr. Maulid.
Acting Principal of the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha, Coast Region, John Baitan said that the training for school leaders will also learn about national security, protocol, patriotism, community, management of government funds and creativity of new sources of income for secondary school leaders as part of building their operational capacity for their daily work in schools.
Other training includes the use of statistics, how to increase income without breaking the law, how to behave as teachers as government officials, which is based on the shortcomings they saw among them.
Chairman of the Dar es Salaam City School Principals, Headmaster of Secondary School Jamhuri Boniface Mwalwego said that the teachers who were appointed have received the training that will increase accountability and maintain discipline in schools where they will go to train other teachers in schools together to manage education properly in terms of policy and curriculum goals.
Currently, new school principals have not been trained, so we have trained them before, with the last time teachers received training in 2020, when the government recently began training primary school principals, so we believe that it will reach secondary school teachers.
“In our three-day training, we have learned how to solve the challenges we face in our work, and 75 percent of the school principals are new, so we can give them guidelines on what their responsibilities are as school principals,” said Mwaluwego.
