Work to provide electricity to small mines continues – Kapinga

Deputy Minister of Energy, Ms. Judith Kapinga has said that the Government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) is continuing with the implementation of projects to provide electricity to small mining areas including salt producing areas in Bagamoyo district.

Ms. Kapinga said this on April 08, 2025 in parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question by the Member of Parliament for Bagamoyo, Mr. Muharami Shabani Mkenge who asked when the Government will provide electricity to the Kitame area of ​​Makurunge Ward in Bagamoyo district to help salt producers.

“As of March 2025, a total of 14 small mining areas have been supplied with electricity, of which 3 areas are for salt miners located in the Kitame area of ​​Makurunge Ward, where a total of 34 miners located in those areas have been reached by electricity service”, said Ms. Kapinga

she said the work of providing electricity to the remaining salt miners will continue depending on the availability of funds.

She said there is another project that provides electricity to approximately 411 water pumps and 605 agricultural and mining areas.

Responding to a question from Kibiti MP, Mr. Twaha Mpembenwe who asked about the Government’s strategy to provide electricity to Kitame Subdistrict so that citizens can benefit from the availability of this energy, Ms. Kapinga said that in that area the Government is implementing Vitongoji electricity projects.

In another step, Mr. Mpembenwe on behalf of the citizens of Kibiti has requested, Ms. Judith Kapinga to convey congratulations to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the implementation of electricity projects worth more than 3.8 billion shillings in Kibiti Constituency.

Ms. Kapinga, for her part, said the Government is receiving the compliments of the people of Kibiti to the President due to the great work he is doing in the energy sector which is supervised by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Doto Biteko.

Responding to a question from Urambo MP, Mrs. Margreth Sitta who asked when the Government will launch the Uhuru power receiving and cooling station located in Urambo Tabora after completion, Mrs. Kapinga said the Uhuru power receiving and cooling station was completed on March 26, 2025 and the people of Urambo, Kaliua and surrounding areas are benefiting from the power station.

Responding to a question from Kilombero MP, Mr. Abubakar Asenga who wanted to know when the strategy to provide electricity to 15 Subdistricts for each Member of Parliament will begin in Kilombero constituency, Mrs. Kapinga said the Government has already found a contractor to provide electricity to the Constituency and he has already started work in some areas and the Government will continue to supervise him so that he can speed up the implementation of the project.
