President wants all citizens to have access to electricity – Kapinga

Deputy Minister for Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga has said that it is the vision of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to see all citizens have access to electricity.

Mrs. Kapinga said this on March 17, 2025 in Mang’oto Village, Makete District, Njombe Region, during a visit by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals to inspect rural electricity projects implemented by the Government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA).

“Mr. President, his legacy and vision is for the whole of Tanzania, in urban areas, rural areas and suburbs, to have access to electricity, that is why you see him struggling to find funds for electricity projects in the suburbs”, said Mrs. Kapinga

She said in 2020 the Government promised to electrify all 12,318 villages by December 2025 and when the Sixth Phase Government came to power, approximately 4000 villages were not yet covered by electricity services.

Mrs. Kapinga has called on the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) and the Rural Energy Agency (REA) to continue to provide cooperation to citizens as well as the provision of education on how to apply for electricity connections.

She has advised citizens to continue providing information using the 180 number which is free of charge to the customer

Mrs. Kapinga has stressed that the Government’s goal is to ensure reliable and affordable electricity reaches all citizens so that they can benefit from economic activities.

The arrival of electricity in Mang’oto Village has benefited the citizens where they have opened economic activities including grain grinding machines but also to be able to simplify services at the Mang’oto Dispensary which was previously using solar electricity.

As a result, citizens have praised the Government for implementing rural electricity projects as they have been able to increase their incomes, including opening businesses such as welding and improving health services.
