The society has been advised to stop the misuse of drugs to protect their kidneys since the use of such drugs is among the factors that contribute to a person getting chronic kidney disease and causing other health problems.

The advice was given by the Kidney Disease Specialist at Muhimbili National Hospital Mloganzila, Dr. Immaculate Goima in the run-up to World Kidney Day, where he noted that society has become accustomed to the indiscriminate use of drugs, including painkillers and herbal medicines.
“Any use of drugs requires advice from experts, let us stop the habit of buying and using drugs indiscriminately when we feel pain or feel any challenge in the body but rather go to a health care center for examination and treatment”, said Dr. Goima
Dr. Goima said citizens should develop the habit of having regular health check-ups to know the health of their kidneys and if they are found to have any challenges, they can receive early treatment before their kidneys are seriously affected.
World Kidney Day is celebrated every second Thursday of March every year where the slogan this year says “Are your kidneys safe, Identify yourself early, protect kidney health”.

This slogan encourages the community to have their kidneys checked early and get treatment for those affected and start treatment early to avoid possible side effects.
