Small-scale miners of the Basia Gold Mine located in Mwanubi village, Shinyanga Rural District have thanked the Sixth Phase Government under President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for providing them with electricity services in the mine.
Speaking, the Chairman of Mabroka Shinyanga Region (CHAMATA), Mr. Masanja Meja said that through the Mining Commission, it has helped them obtain electricity infrastructure in the mine and they have been able to save operating costs by more than 70 percent.
“Electricity helps us a lot in mining, in the past we used to use 20 liters of diesel per day which is not less than 70,000 shillings per month or 2.1 million shillings but currently we use electricity of 15,000 shillings per day or 450,000 shillings per month, which is a big discount for us”, said Mr. Meja.
He said that due to the electricity infrastructure, production has increased from 300 grams per month to 800 grams, thus also increasing government revenue.
The Secretary of the Basia Mine, Mr. Gaga Lupande said that the mine has been collaborating with the citizens in various development activities including the improvement of Mwanubi Primary School as well as the ongoing construction of a Dispensary.
He said the completion of the Dispensary will be able to serve 500 households in the area and eliminate the hardship of the citizens walking long distances to seek health services.
