The Tanzanian under-17 girls’ team ‘Serengeti Girls’ has failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing 3-0 to Zambia.
In the match played on March 9, 2025 at the Azam Complex Stadium, the hosts Serengeti showed hope in the first half and the teams left the field scoreless.
Zambia or Copper Princess began to harass Serengeti Girls in the 64th minute with a goal by Grace Phiri before adding a second in the 80th minute scored by Mercy Chipasula.
Serengeti’s hopes of getting even a tearful goal were not possible instead the team was defeated by a third goal scored by Mercy again this time on a penalty in the 89th minute.
The teams are expected to meet again next Saturday in Ndola, Zambia at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and after that the winner between the two teams will face the winner of the match between DR Congo and Benin.
In another qualifying match, Cameroon beat Ethiopia 5-2 at home.
