Arusha: The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has said that Tanzania is the Host of the African Clean Energy Program.
He said this while speaking at the International Women’s Day National Summit held in Arusha, March 08, 2025 at the Shekhe Amri Abeid Karume Stadium.
Dr. Samia said that the presence of the Clean Energy Program in the country has made Tanzania the Host of the African Clean Energy Program.
“In this Clean Energy, we have a special program as Tanzania and since Tanzania is the host of this program for Africa, clean cooking energy is our agenda as a country and we are proud of it in Africa”, said Dr. Samia

Dr. Samia emphasized that the issue of energy is in the seventh sustainable development plan in Tanzania, and Tanzania has done a good job in ensuring that clean energy is used.
“It is not just energy but clean energy. We have done a good job of building the Mwalimu Nyerere Dam and it produces 2,115 Megawatts. In addition to the dam, there are six other small dams that produce electricity in other areas,” said Dr. Samia.
Regarding the distribution of electricity in the country, Dr. Samia continued to say that currently all 12,300 villages in the country have already been electrified and the work is ongoing in the Subdistricts.
“On the issue of energy, we have made great strides. We were benefiting from electricity in some villages and now the Government has been able to distribute electricity to all 12,300 villages. And as we speak, several Subdistricts have already been connected and work is ongoing,” said Dr. Samia.
Dr. Samia said how Tanzania is blessed with the presence of Natural Gas which as a nation continues to process, explaining that now the country has moved away from using oil-based electricity and is focusing on Natural Gas and Water to get more clean energy.
