11th Petroleum Conference to increase production opportunities

The Tanzania Electricity Corporation, TANESCO, is hoping to increase the opportunity to generate electricity through diversified sources through the 11th East African Petroleum Conference currently underway at the Mwalimu Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC).

This was stated on March 4 by TANESCO Research Manager, Engineer Samwel Kessy while explaining the Conference that brings together various energy stakeholders at the TANESCO Pavilion at an exhibition on the sidelines of the Conference.

“As you know, TANESCO generates electricity through various sources. Currently, we generate electricity through 65 percent hydropower and 32 percent from natural gas.

At this Conference, we have had the opportunity to speak with investors, many of whom have expressed interest in joining Tanzania in generating electricity from renewable energy sources including solar, wind and geothermal,” said Engineer Kessy.

For their part, some of the stakeholders of the Conference who visited the TANESCO pavilion have expressed their satisfaction with the various projects being implemented as well as the good management carried out by the Organization.

“I am pleased with the progress that TANESCO has continued to make in our country, especially in distributing electricity services not only in cities but also in rural areas.

I am also happy to know that our Nyerere Dam is on track to be completed”, said Mrs. Claire Haule.

For her part, Kahema Mziray, TANESCO has shown a positive trend in the availability of electricity in the country and that electricity challenges will be history in the country.

“I am happy with the progress that TANESCO is making, I can say they are assuring us that there will be no more electricity rationing” said Mziray.

This 11th East African Petroleum Conference will last for three days and is expected to end on March 7, 2025.
