Dar es Salaam: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko has ordered Student, Mirabelle Msukari and her classmates from Sun Rise Primary School located in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam to be sent to the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) to learn more about how the project generates electricity.
Dr. Biteko made the promise on February 18, 2025 via phone after the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga visited the school with the aim of congratulating the student whose video gained popularity through social media where Mirabelle effectively explained about various power projects being implemented in the country including the Julius Nyerere project.
‘’We congratulate you and are happy that at your age you are following energy issues, now we will take you to see the Julius Nyerere Dam and see how electricity is generated so that you can continue to learn more. We wish to see you succeed more,” said Dr. Biteko
Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Kapinga said these strategic projects that are being implemented in the country are the efforts of the sixth Government under the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who has shown a sincere commitment to developing electricity projects in the country including the JNHPP project which has reached 99.8%.
“When the President came to power, the Julius Nyerere Project was 33 percent, today as we speak it has reached more than 99 percent and eight machines have already been introduced into the National Grid. Only one machine remains where the project is in the process of completion”, stressed Mrs. Kapinga
Director of Communications and Customer Service Mrs. Irene Gowelle speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) said they have received in practice the order of Dr. In an effort to ensure that the student visits the Julius Nyerere Project, the case of this student shows that the education and information provided by TANESCO is reaching the target audience accurately.
The student, in addition to the congratulations, has been given various prizes including a Laptop and a cash prize of Two Million Shillings.
