ZMBF has implemented the Beijing Declaration commitments

The First Lady of Zanzibar, Msarifu and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF), Mrs. Mariam Mwinyi, has said that ZMBF has implemented the Beijing Declaration commitments by a large percentage.

Mrs. Mariam Mwinyi said this in the continuation of a meeting organized by the Organization of African First Ladies and Gentlemen (OAFLAD) at the African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia last week.

Mrs. Mariam Mwinyi, while addressing the “Building on Beijing” session, said achievements in education, health, legal reforms, economic empowerment and decision-making in Tanzania and Zanzibar, 30 years since the resolutions were issued.

The 29th Ordinary Meeting of the African First Ladies’ Advocacy Foundation (OAFLAD), which brought together First Ladies from 17 African countries, also resolved to launch the OAFLAD Strategic Plan 2025-2030, which focuses on the health, education, women’s economic empowerment and combating gender-based violence sectors.

Under her leadership, the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF) continues to implement the commitments of the Beijing Declaration, empowering 1,690+ seaweed farmers with a target of reaching 5,000 by 2030.

In terms of reproductive health, 8,600 school girls have benefited from sanitary pads, reducing the shortage of sanitary pads and school absenteeism.

She said the Good Health, Good Life Campaign has reached 17,200+ beneficiaries, targeting malnutrition, maternal mortality and non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

She said the Zanzibar GBV Case Management System is bringing about significant changes in the monitoring and management of gender-based violence cases.

Ms. Mariam Mwinyi remains committed to strengthening women’s leadership, protecting African heritage and advancing sustainable development.
