Rufiji: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr. Gerson Msigwa has congratulated the Ministry of Energy for managing the strategic Julius Nyerere hydroelectric project that will generate 2,115 Megawatts.
Mr. Msigwa gave the congratulations on February 16, 2025 at the Julius Nyerere project site during a meeting between the Chief Government Spokesperson and the Press.

“This ministry is doing a great job implementing this project and others that benefit Tanzanians by providing them with sufficient electricity”, said Mr. Msigwa.
He said the Julius Nyerere Dam project involves three major aspects which are access to electricity, irrigation agriculture, fishing and livestock.
He said this electricity project worth 6.558 trillion shillings began construction in 2019 and has now reached 99.8 percent. Eight machines with a capacity to generate 1,880 Megawatts have been completed and turned on and their electricity has been fed into the National Grid.
Mr. Msigwa stressed that the ninth and final machine has reached 98 percent implementation with the plant’s trials expected to begin on February 25 and March 10, 2025 and after that it will be fed into the National Grid to complete 2,115 megawatts.
In another step, he urged Tanzanians to be proud of the Julius Nyerere project due to its size not only in the African continent but also in the world in general.
