Muhimbili National Hospital Mloganzila has introduced a service for pregnant women to give birth in a special jacuzzi (water birth).
A statement shared on social media said the service will help mothers reduce pain and avoid tearing during childbirth.
According to the Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Dr. Debora Bukuku, the introduction of the service is a continuation of expanding the scope of services, previously in Public Hospitals such services were available only in Muhimbili Upanga.
A Certified Nurse Midwife and an Expert in helping mothers give birth in a jacuzzi, Mr. Rwehabura France said that among the benefits of a mother giving birth in a jacuzzi include getting the opportunity to stay with experts and a relative she chooses to stay with her for the entire time she will be in the jacuzzi, which will increase her comfort and not feel pain.
Mr. France added that before the mother is given the service, she is given education about the flow of the service, where she also noted that the service is safe for the mother and the baby to be born.
On the other hand, the mother who gave birth in the jacuzzi at the hospital, Mrs. Rahel Mushi, said she was pleased with the service because the experts were giving her exercises all the time she was in the jacuzzi and made her feel no pain. She has advised other mothers to use the service.
“I am pleased with the jacuzzi delivery service provided here, Muhimbili National Hospital Mloganzila because I gave birth without feeling any pain or discomfort, so I advise other mothers to use this service because it is safe”, said Mrs. Mushi
