Mloganzila Hospital discharges five more kidney patients

Muhimbili-Mloganzila Hospital has discharged five more patients, bringing the number of patients who have undergone kidney transplants to 15 since the service was established at the hospital in 2023.

Speaking to journalists while allowing the patients to return home, on behalf of the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director MNH-Mloganzila, Dr. Julieth Magandi said the provision of these services is a result of investments made by the Sixth Phase Government under the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Dr. Magandi said there is no reason for Tanzanians to go abroad for kidney transplants as local specialists have sufficient capacity and expertise, good infrastructure, medical equipment and a good working environment.

Some doctors with patients who have consented after a kidney transplant.

Renal Specialist, MNH Mloganzila Dr. Immaculate Goima said the hospital has about 90 patients who are receiving dialysis services, of which 60 need kidney transplants but have not found a donor, so he has advised their relatives to come forward to undergo tests and donate kidneys to their relatives to relieve them of the challenges they are going through.

Urologist, Dr. Hamis Isaka said the technology used to harvest the kidney is modern using small holes (Hand Assisted Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy) where the kidney donor stays in the hospital for two to three days and returns to his duties between two to four weeks.

One of the beneficiaries of the service, has thanked the hospital’s experts for the good medical services, advice, love and monitoring that were being done by the experts before and after the kidney transplant, which has given them great comfort.
