Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko said that connecting electricity to villages is 27,000/- and to villages in the city is 320,960/-.
Mrs. Kapinga said on January 30, 2024 in parliament in Dodoma while answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Bukene, Mr. Selemani Zedi who wanted to know why the Bukene and Itobo areas are not being connected to electricity at a cost of 27,000/-!.
“Mr. Speaker, Bukene and Itobo areas are urban villages where the cost of connecting electricity to urban villages is 360,960/-“, said, Mrs. Kapinga
She added that the Government is continuing to look into whether there is a possibility of making improvements based on the assessment that has been done.
Mrs. Kapinga said she has already instructed the Tabora Regional Manager and Nzega District Manager to conduct a detailed assessment so that detailed answers can be obtained if Bukene and Itobo areas are to be able to remove the existing confusion.
Responding to a question from Kilombero MP, Mr. Abubakari Asenga who wanted to know why Katinduka areas are still paying for electricity at 360,960/- while they are rural areas, Mrs. Kapinga said rural areas are being connected at 27,000/- due to the Government and donors providing funds to implement rural electricity projects.
Mrs. Kapinga has emphasized that not every area meets the criteria for connecting electricity for 27,000/- Katinduka areas are Mtaa areas.
Responding to a question from the Special Seats Member of Parliament, Mrs. Anatropia Theonest who wanted to know when the remaining villages in Kyerwa will be reached by electricity service including Buganza and Nyarigongo Villages, Mrs. Kapinga said that electricity has already reached the Village Headquarters in Kyerwa areas and added that the Contractor is continuing with work on two additional kilometers.
