The Kariakoo Marketing Organization has said that from February 03, 2025, they will start handing over keys to traders who were trading before the market suffered a fire accident and burned down on July 10, 2021.
Speaking at a press conference, organized by the office of the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, the Chairman of the Board of the Kariakoo Marketing Organization, Mrs. Hawa Ghasia said the names of traders who will be handed over keys will be published on the Kariakoo Marketing Organization system, January 31, 2025.
Mrs. Ghasia said that after the names are published, a trader who sees his name will be required to come to the office and be given a procedure including signing a contract, being instructed on how to register on the TAUSI system and being handed over his keys so that he can start doing his business as before.
She said a total of 1,154 traders are expected to be handed over their keys because they have met the market’s criteria and conditions immediately after the renovation is completed.
Another 366 traders will not be given keys until they settle their debts owed to the market management. They owed more than 358 million shillings before the fire, so they must pay their debts before being given keys to return to the market.
“There are 366 traders, they owe debts that they must pay in order to be given keys but 1,154 traders who see their name on the system should come and collect their keys”, said, Mrs. Gasia
For new traders, who are interested in joining the market, she urged them not to be fooled by anyone who says they will give them a place but that the places will be given in a systematic manner again using a special system known as ‘Tausi’.
Mrs. Gasia said they expect to organize training on how to use the Tausi system so that new traders can enter and apply for a place once the system is opened.
At the meeting, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila used the opportunity to thank the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for choosing the Dar es Salaam region to host the Energy Conference and said it is a great honor that the region has received through the conference.
