The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has launched a campaign to promote domestic tourism in the ‘Amboni Tanga’ caves in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated annually on February 14.

The campaign was launched by the Tanga District Commissioner, Mr. Japhari Kubecha on January 26, 2025 with the slogan “Amboni Caves: Natural Joy, Heritage Riches”.

In addition to promoting domestic tourism, the campaign aims to boost the economy of small entrepreneurs in the Tanga region.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kubecha commended the NCAA leadership for their efforts to promote domestic tourism in the caves and to encourage citizens inside and outside the Tanga Region to build a culture of visiting attractions within the country.

“We recognize the special efforts made by the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority to ensure that archaeological tourism and cultural heritage continue to be a great tourist attraction in the country, therefore I would like to appeal to all citizens inside and outside the Tanga region to ensure that on February 14 we meet here in Amboni”. He said, Mr. Kubecha.

The Senior Assistant Commissioner for Conservation, NCAA in charge of tourism services and marketing, Mrs. Mariam Kobelo said that towards that day, the NCAA will provide an opportunity for Tanga residents to participate in various activities that will be held there to continue to inspire and increase awareness of the various Conservation activities carried out by the Authority.

“This activity that we are going to do this Valentine’s holiday season will involve a cooking competition of local foods, which will be held here in Amboni and walking inside the Caves and being educated about this unique attraction that exists in our country”, said Mrs. Mariam

Mrs. Kobelo explained that to ensure that the day will be a good one and enable many Tanzanians to participate, the Authority has collaborated with the Smiles Safaris Tourism Company which will provide services to bring tourists to Amboni from the regions of Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Tanga where the participation costs for each Region will be provided and the costs will include Food, Accommodation for one day, entrance fees and photos.

The Amboni Tanga Caves have been managed by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) since 2019 and are located just 9Km from the center of Tanga City.
