Kigamboni ferry travel problem is over – Government

The Minister of Works, Mr. Abdallah Ulega on January 23, 2025 launched partnerships between the Government and the private sector at the Magogoni station by officially launching 2 ferries that will provide services to the public.

A statement issued and distributed to the media said that the government has agreed with the private sector to help carry out the work, where Azam Marine has been given the responsibility.

The statement said that two modern ferries have already been launched and that each has the capacity to carry 250 passengers and cross in 5 to 6 minutes.

Speaking at the brief launch ceremony, the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Albert Chalamila said that we have been here several times and have seen how our fellow Tanzanians are struggling because the Government has not yet provided proper answers to the challenges of ferries.

He thanked President Dr. Samia for finding an answer to the cry of Ilala, Kigamboni and Tanzanians in general by launching two ferries which are Sea Tax 3 and Sea Tax 4, installing a digital ticketing system and the Abilia Modern Terminal while waiting for ferries.

“This is an investment that responds to the challenges of the citizens and I highly commend Azam Group and ask them to continue investing in other areas”, He said, Mr. Chalamila.

Mr. Chalamila said TANROAD has road reserve areas which are bushes so he advised that these areas be given to people who are serious and an investment that will be productive and of broad public interest.

On the part of the District Heads of Ilala and Kigamboni, they have thanked the President for his efforts and vision in bringing prosperity to the community in this country especially in Ilala, Kigamboni and Dar es Salaam Districts in general.

The government continues to make improvements to ferries and investments in new ferries not only in Magogoni but also in other areas such as Lake Victoria, Tanganyika and Lake Nyasa.
