Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko has said that the existing electricity distribution infrastructure is outdated and the Government has already started work on replacing it.
Dr. Biteko said this during a 45-minute ITV program on January 20, 25.
“This infrastructure has been there for many years, that is why we have started to carry out repairs by removing the old ones and installing new ones”, said Dr. Biteko.
He added that a lot of work has been done in rural electricity distribution where almost 100 percent of all villages have been reached by electricity.
The implementation of rural electricity projects is currently moving towards Subdistricts where out of the 64,000 Subdistricts in the country, 34,000 Subdistricts have been reached by electricity.
Dr. Biteko said electricity consumption has recently increased in many economic sectors including the SGR train and large mines.
