Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila has organized a special hip and knee revision surgery camp from February 26 to March 07, 2025.
According to the Assistant Director of Surgical Services Dr. Godlove Mfuko, the camp will be conducted by Muhimbili Mloganzila experts in collaboration with a Chinese transplant surgeon, Prof. Tian Hua.
Dr. Mfuko said the hospital has decided to establish these revision services due to the need of many people who come to seek this service at the hospital and are unsuccessful, so the leadership saw the need to reduce the inconvenience and costs of seeking these services abroad.
“The government has continued to build the capacity of local experts to perform such expert services, now it is our responsibility as experts to establish new services with the aim of reducing the cost and inconvenience for citizens to seek these services abroad. Previously, this surgery was not performed in the country due to the availability of special hip and knee replacements for revision surgery and expertise,” said Dr. Mfuko
Dr. Mfuko said that revision hip and knee replacement services are performed due to previously implanted hips and knees failing or other challenges, adding that those who need these services should arrive at the hospital early for examination and subsequent treatment.
Muhimbili National Hospital has performed hip and knee replacement services for more than 256 patients since these services began to be provided at the hospital in 2023.
