Simanjiro commends government for road construction

Simanjiro: RESIDENTS of Simanjiro District have commended the Government through the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) for resolving the long-standing problem of roads and bridges in the district.

Speaking during a press tour to visit infrastructure construction projects in the district, the residents said that before the construction of the infrastructure, they were experiencing difficulties, especially during the rainy season, which caused floods and cut off communication due to the lack of sufficient bridges in the district.

A resident of Lolotu Village in the district, Ms. Angelina Makala, said that in the past, before the construction of the infrastructure, they were unable to go to their social activities due to the flooding of rivers and cutting off communication.

She said that in the past, we were suffering, because during the rainy season, we cross the water, we swim in the water and children do not go to school until the floods are over.

But since this road was built, this is the third year that we have benefited from this road.

“We are grateful because even yesterday the water came out here, we have seen that Mama Samia is doing us well, the contractor who is here is building large culverts.” He said, Mrs.

A resident of Orkesumet, Simanjiro district, Mr. Cloud Losioki says for the first time their town has got asphalt roads which have helped to ease transportation as well as save them from the health effects that were previously caused by dust.

He said the completion of the project will help them to raise their economy due to the development that will be achieved including transporting crops and other goods easily using these roads.

“We are happy because it is the first time in our town that we are getting an asphalt road, I believe that everyone is happy because the asphalt road helps reduce dust”, said, Mr. Cloud.

He said that the completion of these roads will make Orkesumet town beautiful and grow economically, however he requested the government to pave the main road from Arusha and connect Kiteto district to bring development to the people of the town as well.

Speaking to reporters, the Acting Manager of TARURA Simanjiro District, Engineer Naftari Chaula, said their main job is to ensure that they manage the road network and its maintenance, and the district manages a road with a length of 1368 kilometers.

He said that the gravel road is 230 kilometers, the soil level is more than 1,000 kilometers and 4.5 kilometers is asphalt level.

He said the goal is to reach 6.5 kilometers by February this year. There have been major changes in the budget for the implementation of road construction where the allocation of funds has increased from 960 million shillings / – to 4.5 billion / -.

He said they expect to open more than 140 kilometers of roads in the Kitwai area for the establishment of new settlements in the area where the government has allocated funds for the project.

In the case of Mererani Town, Engineer Chaula said last year they built a 1.22 kilometer long asphalt road and installed 31 lights and made major changes in Orkesumet Town by paving 1.9 kilometers.

The construction of these roads in these areas will help increase land value but also stimulate the growth of daily activities as well as improve a clean environment that will lead to improved health of the citizens.
