Yanga has revived its hopes in the African Champions League after beating TP Mazembe of DR Congo 3-1 in a Group A match played today, Saturday, at the Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
The victory has brought Yanga to four points and lifted them off the bottom, dropping Mazembe to two points, the other teams in the group are leaders Al Hilal of Sudan and MC Alger of Algeria.
Mazembe were the first to score a goal in the 16th minute, scored from a penalty by goalkeeper Aliufati Badara, the penalty was awarded after Shedrack Boka tripped Ibrahim Keita in the penalty area.
Boka equalized his mistakes in the 33rd minute after providing a pass that led to Yanga’s equalizer, scored by Clement Mzize with a powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Badara.
Four minutes after the goal, Boka moved the ball to the left and passed it to Stephane Aziz Ki who surprisingly, being very close to the Mazembe goalkeeper, failed to score.
Yanga continued to attack Mazembe’s goal and in the 56th minute Aziz Ki made up for his mistakes by giving Yanga a second goal, making good use of Khalid Aucho’s pass.
Mazembe before they could calm down found themselves pinned by a third goal scored by Mzize after Mudathir Yahya robbed a Mazembe defender and passed it to Prince Dube who passed it to Mzize.
