National Hospital Muhimbili Upanga and Mloganzila has celebrated the day of the child born prematurely in the world by bringing together experts, mothers and their children with the aim of sharing experiences about the development and upbringing of these children.
Speaking at the peak of the day, MNH Mloganzila, Pediatrician who specializes in infants, Dr. Lucy Mpayo has said that if a child born prematurely is well cared for, he grows up without any problems because premature birth is not a disease.
Dr. Lucy has advised pregnant women to attend the clinic early and added that it is recommended to attend the clinic at least one month after pregnancy to get expert advice that will help the child and the mother as some of the reasons that cause the mother to have a child prematurely are avoidable.
“Some of the reasons that cause a mother to give birth prematurely include bacterial infection, urinary tract infection (UTI), high blood pressure and the mother not getting good nutrition during pregnancy”, said Dr. Lucy
A mother with a premature baby, Ms. Scholastica Mlingi said she had the child in 2016 where she gave birth at seven months and succeeded in having a baby girl weighing 1Kg and now the child is 8 years old.
Mrs. Scholastica has advised the community to get rid of misconceptions when a mother has a child prematurely and to cooperate with her and the family as a whole because the upbringing of the child requires cooperation and solidarity among the community.
The day of the child born prematurely is celebrated on November 17, every year where its goal is to provide education to the community about these children, discuss progress and share experiences about the care of these children.
