Free villages are sh. 27,000 to be connected to electricity – Kapinga

Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko has instructed the Executive Director TANESCO, Engineer Gissima Nyamo-Hanga to conduct a review of the villages that are charged the city price for connecting electricity so that they can pay the appropriate price for the villages which is 27,000 shillings.

Mrs. Kapinga said this on November 05, 2024 in parliament in Dodoma when answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Bukoba Vijijini, Mr. Samsung Rweikiza who wanted to know what measures the Government is taking for rural citizens who pay for the cost of electricity connection more than 27,000.

“In some areas which are villages and have been charged a cost of 321,000 shillings, I am instructing the Executive Director of TANESCO to review these areas”, emphasized Bibi. Kapinga

About the Government to deliver electricity to neighborhoods without electricity Bukoba Vijijini, Mrs. Kapinga has said that the Government continues to connect the townships that do not have electricity where 258 out of 515 townships of Bukoba Rural State have been provided with electricity.

The work of delivering electricity to 27 townships that do not have electricity in Bukoba Rural District continues through the 2B extension projects and the Project to Deliver Electricity to Townships Phase II A (HEP IIA).

Answering a question, Member of Parliament for Special Seats Kilimanjaro Region, Mrs. Kunti Msangi who wanted to know what efforts the Government is making to eliminate the problem of low electricity in Kigamboni areas, Mrs. Kapinga has said that the Government is continuing with the improvements of the Mbagala power receiving and cooling station by installing a 120 MVA transformer to strengthen the access to electricity in Kigamboni, Mbagala and the coastal zone.

“The transformer has arrived and the contractor is on site and continuing his work. I can assure you, Honorable Member of Parliament, that the Government of the Sixth Phase is making every effort to ensure that the people continue to have reliable electricity,” he said, Mrs. Kapinga

Answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Nanyumbu, Mr. Ally Mhata who wanted to know when the Government will pay compensation to the people of Nanyumbu District to pass the construction of the National Grid electricity line, Mr. Kapinga has said that in Nanyumbu District, 689 citizens are voting for the construction of a 220 kilowatt power transmission line from Tunduru to Masasi.

He added that the procedures for paying compensation to the people who failed the project are ongoing where a total of 1.95 billion shillings are expected to be paid to those people.

He said that the Government is currently continuing with the procedures for acquiring funds to compensate the citizens of Nanyumbu, adding that when the funds are available, the citizens will be paid their entitlements on time.
