Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga has said that the Government is implementing a project to connect Mtwara and Lindi Regions with grid electricity from Songea through the Tunduru, Masasi-Mahumbika route.
Mrs. Kapinga has said this, November 04, 2024 in parliament in Dodoma when answering the question of Mr. Zuberi Kuchauka, Member of Parliament for Liwale who wanted to know the Government’s decision regarding the construction of a power station in Liwale State.
“The importance of building a power station in Liwale is there because it will improve access to electricity in Liwale, let me assure you, Mr. MP, we are currently implementing a large project to deliver electricity from the national grid to the said regions”, said Mrs. Kapinga
Answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Namtumbo, Mr. Victor Kawawa who wanted to know when the citizens who rejected the National Grid project to Mtwara and Lindi Regions will be compensated.
Answering that question, Mrs. Kapinga said the order of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure that the citizens are paid compensation is being implemented.
Answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Meatu, Mrs. Leah Komanya who asked the Government what strategy it has to end the problem of power outages in Meatu District, Mrs. Kapinga has said that Meatu District gets electricity from the Ibadakuli Cooling Station located in Shinyanga Region, 135 kilometers away.
The power outage in Meatu district is due to the long distance of the electricity transmission line as well as the wear and tear of the electricity infrastructure, the Government continues to take measures to deal with the problem including closing the electricity regulators in the original route, building the electricity transmission line from Mkalama In Singida Region to Bukundi in Meatu District along with the exercise of replacing worn poles by placing concrete poles.
“In the financial year 2024/2025, the Government has started to implement the construction of an electric cooling station in the area of Imalilo, Bariadi District in Simiyu Region where an electric line will be built from the station to Meatu”, Mrs has insisted Kapinga.
Answering the question of the Bunda Urban Member of Parliament, Mr. Robert Chacha who wanted to know when the Government will complete the supply of electricity to the streets of Bunda Town Council, Mrs. Kapinga has said that the Government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) is already implementing a project for fifteen townships.
Answering the question of the Tarime Rural Member of Parliament, Mr. A Waitara caller who wanted to know when the Government will complete the electricity supply in Tarime Rural State, Mrs. Kapinga has said that the Government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) is already implementing a project for fifteen townships.
He added that from December this year the Government will start implementing another project of 4,000 Villages in the country.
