The first specialized camp in Tanzania for the treatment of severe pain using radiology will be held in Muhimbili

The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Upanga in collaboration with the ROAD2IR institute in the United States will hold a special examination and treatment camp for patients with severe pain in the joints and various parts of the body with a modern method of radiological therapy that will be led by a medical specialist that in the world Prof. David Prologo from Emory Health Care of the United States.

Radiology is a type of medical profession in which a specialist doctor uses diagnostic imaging technology (Angio-Suite, CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, etc.) to guide him to perform examinations or treatments through small holes in the body without surgery.

MNH Radiology Specialist, Dr. Erick Mbuguje has said that this camp will involve the treatment of patients with severe pain of all kinds divided into two main groups, back pain and pain in other parts of the body.

Dr. Mbuguje has said that the first group is patients with severe back pain not caused by cancer, including crushed, fractured or sprained vertebrae where the treatment of such pain does not involve surgery.

He said that the discs that compress the nerves so that the pain spreads to the parts of the legs that cannot be treated by surgery and patients with pain caused by spinal cord injuries and added that patients with back pain caused by cancer that caused the broken spinal cord or compression of the nerves will also be treated. .

Dr. Mbuguje said the second group are patients with severe pain in other parts of the body that are not caused by cancer in the knees, shoulders, hips, where the treatment of such pain is not removed through surgery and to add to this group those with other pains caused by various cancers such as the pancreas as well. they will benefit from the service.

Diagnostic and treatment services will be held from November 04 – 15, 2024, in the Radiology Department located near the Administration building, room number 24, at 02 am to 11 pm and will be provided according to normal hospital procedures.
