10 percent of the loans suspended in 2023 will start being issued again in November this year

Deputy Minister Office of the President Regional Administrations and Local Governments, Dr. Festo Dugange has said that Council loans of 10 percent from the Council’s internal income for groups of women, youth and people with disabilities are expected to start being given before or by November 30, 2024 to be able to benefit the beneficiaries of the loans.

Dr. Dugange said this, in Parliament in Dodoma when answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Special Seats, Mrs. Santiel Eric Kirumba who asked when will the Government return the 10 percent loans to Special Groups?.

He said that loans for groups of women, youth and people with disabilities were suspended on April 13, 2023 in order to review and improve the procedure for issuing those loans due to the challenges identified in the statement of the Comptroller and Auditor General of Government Accounts (CAG) for the Financial Year 2021/22.

“The government has amended the law and has already reviewed the Regulations for Issuance and Management of Loans for Groups of Women, Youth and People with Disabilities for the year 2019 and its amendment for the year 2021 and issued the Regulations for Issuance and Management of Loans for Groups of Women, Youth and People People with Disabilities in 2024”, said Dr. ‘Dugange

Dr. Dugange said that the activities that have begun to be implemented are to provide training on the new system for providing and managing the loans to 862 managers at the regional and council level.

Training continues to be given to credit service management committees at ward, council and district levels as well as groups.

“following the training given, the preliminary analysis of the loans has already started in the Local Government Authorities and the loans are expected to start being issued before or by November 30, 2024”, Dr. ‘Dugange’.
