Executive Director of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Mr. Mussa Makame has said that the implementation of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has reached 43.5 percent while some construction works in camps and pipeline storage facilities have been completed by 100 percent.
He said this, yesterday while giving information to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals regarding the implementation of the construction project of the Crude Oil Pipeline from Hoima in Uganda to Chongoleani Tanga, Tanzania.
“The work of the EACOP project involves the construction of a 1,443 km long pipeline and other infrastructure while 1,147 km equal to 80 percent are on the Tanzanian side”, he said, Mr. Makame
He has explained that the construction of the thermal insulation system plant (TIS) has reached 92 percent.
He added that the pipeline will pass through 8 regions which are Kagera, Geita, Shinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Manyara and Tanga.
He said the crude oil pipeline will have the capacity to transport 216,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The Parliamentary Committee has also received information on the implementation of electricity projects in villages, towns, cities and small industrial areas in the regions of Ruvuma, Njombe, Mbeya and Rukwa.
Director General, Rural Energy Agency (REA), Engineer, Hassan Saidy has explained to the Parliamentary Energy and Minerals Committee that until September 2024 a total of 12,240 villages have been reached by electricity service which is an increase of 11,734 villages since 2007.
“Another achievement is to contribute to the improvement of community services including health, education and water in rural areas”, said Mhandisi Saidy
About Clean Energy Cooking, Eng. Hassan has said that this financial year the Government will distribute 450,000 cylinders at a subsidized price to citizens throughout the country.
Regarding the project of transmission of electricity to the areas of small mines, factories and agricultural areas in the regions of Ruvuma, Njombe, Mbeya and Rukwa, the engineer, Saidy said that the project involves the construction of 1,372.39 kilometers of medium voltage electricity, 995.81 kilometers of low voltage electricity limited, installation of 603 transformers and electrical connections in 591 areas.
