The Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba has invited companies from England to invest in the Energy Sector, especially in the area of Renewable Energy in order to fulfill the Government’s goal of injecting more electricity into the national grid from Renewable Energy.
Engineer Mramba said this in Dodoma when he met and held talks with a delegation from the British Embassy in Tanzania led by Mr. Euan Davidson, Leader of the Sustainable Wellbeing Team where the session focused on discussing areas of collaboration.
Engineer Mramba has explained the message about the need for investment in renewable energy projects, including solar electricity for home use, especially in off-grid areas, as well as the large investment in solar electricity that will enter the national grid.
He said that investment in solar energy has already started through the Kishapu-Shinyanga project (150MW) and other investments will be made in other areas in the country including Dodoma Region (200MW).
Regarding the investment in electricity generated from wind, he said that there are areas that have already been identified that can generate that electricity including Dodoma, Singida, Mbeya, Makambako, Same, Mara and Arusha which need cooperation in investment.
“Tanzania is blessed with many sources of renewable energy because we also have a large geothermal fund in about 52 areas which, if developed, will produce more electricity than the country of Kenya which currently produces about 1000 megawatts of geothermal electricity”, said Mramba
He has expressed Tanzania’s intention to use cleaner energy to generate electricity, including blue hydrogen energy derived from natural gas resources, without forgetting the use of biogas energy, especially in rural areas with many livestock.
Regarding Clean Energy for Cooking, Engineer Mramba has explained to the message the efforts taken by the Government to ensure that 80 percent of the people use clean energy for cooking by the year 2034.
He said all this is the implementation of the National Strategy for the Use of Clean Energy for Cooking, the implementation of which involves the Government and various stakeholders including the private sector.
Regarding electricity distribution in cities and villages, Engineer Mramba has said that Tanzania has made great strides in the area and with electricity distribution in villages, 99 percent of the villages have been reached by electricity and that by December this year, every village will have been reached by electricity service.
The leader of the Sustainable Welfare Team from the British Embassy in the country, Mr. Euan Davidson has thanked for getting detailed information from the Ministry of Energy that will be used by the country to look at the areas where they can collaborate with Tanzania in investing in the Energy Sector.
He has explained that the talks between the leaders have been important as Tanzania is one of the countries prioritized by the UK in various issues including investment, the talks between the leaders have also touched on the International Energy Conference to be held in Tanzania in 2025 where the UK has shown interest in participating
