Facebook and Instagram users start getting paid, hacking is reckless – Meta

The company Meta, which owns social networks Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, has said this year it will start a program to pay users of its networks due to the content they put on those networks, Tanzania is the second in Africa, the first is Nigeria in this program.

Speaking at a meeting held yesterday at the University of Dar es Salaam, Manager of Public Policy – East and Horn of Africa of the Meta Company, Mr. Desmond Mushi said the program to pay its users will start with Facebook and be followed by Instagram as other companies do.

Mr. Mushi said that users of Meta networks should stay alert by preparing their networks, ensure that they strengthen protection and security, prepare logical content and add that they should not forget to change their Instagram accounts from the Community Mirror ‘Public Figure’ to content creators for if so the system will be allowed to make money.

In addition, Mr. Mushi asked the users of these networks to refrain from buying ‘followers’, buying people’s accounts and posting inappropriate content because doing that is against Meta’s rules and if found, their accounts will be closed and it will be very difficult to get them back.

About hacked accounts, Mr. Mushi said that Meta has developed great protection and security on their networks, those who are hacked are due to their carelessness which they have done without knowing and mentioning some of them as buying people’s accounts, opening an account with someone or trusting someone and giving them the ability to enter your network.

“If you buy or open an account and someone gives your email and phone number, don’t trust someone if you give them the ability to log in, people change and they are the ones who hack people’s networks”, said Mr. Mushi

The meeting was organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with the government through the Department of Information (INFORMATION) and META. It was about ‘Media Literacy and Digital Skills’, safety and digital inclusion in Tanzanian news and information platforms.
