Those who have been fitted with artificial hips and knees in Mlonganzila are starting to be allowed

Some of the patients who underwent surgery to put artificial knees and hips in the special camp that is going on at Taifa Muhimbili Mloganzila Hospital have started to be allowed to return home after their health improved.

Speaking to journalists at the hospital today, Assistant Director of Surgical Services MNH-Mloganzila Dr. Godlove Mfuko, who represented the Executive Director, said that the discharge of those patients shows how Mloganzila met international standards for performing that type of surgery.

“According to international standards, a person who underwent this type of surgery, if there is no emergency, is usually three to five days, so we also go with those standards where patients who underwent this type of surgery on Monday are discharged today”

On his part, the leader of the camp, Prof. Mamoun Gadir from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in England has said that the layout and structure of the Mloganzila hospital does not differ from hospitals in developed countries and that professionals have basic knowledge so if they are added with a little additional knowledge they can be experts.

On his part, MNH-Mloganzila Hip and Knee Surgeon Dr. Shilekilwa Makira has identified various reasons that lead to hip and knee ailments including old age, Selimundu’s disease, Osteoarthritis and Accidents.

He said that the camp apart from providing services has also provided an opportunity for experts from Temeke RRH, CCBRT and Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital (MZRH) to learn, he also thanked the experts of Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) for participating in building their capacity .

“After the camp ends, the treatment procedure for people with hip and knee problems will continue as usual where we will see them in our clinics and if they show they need surgery we will do it,” said Dr. Makira

The special camp started on November 27 this year and has been organized in collaboration with the Global Medicare Institute, where until today 14 people have benefited from the surgery, while by December this year 35 people are expected to be treated.
